PBFantasy: The “Smart” Decision
November 3, 2009 by SYDMAN · Leave a Comment
Last week, PBA has ordered the Smart-Gilas games as “no-bearing”. This means that win or lose their games will not affect the opposing team’s standings. This is the league’s answer for the RP Team’s lackluster performance. Ever since their debut, the infamous Smart-Burger King game where Wynne Arboleda MMA-ed Allan Katigbac, Gilas hasn’t been playing well. Worse, their naturalization nominee CJ Giles is suffering from personal problems that made him less focused in their TNT game. However, their roster lists 18 players. Without Giles, they get their strength from top pick Japeth Aguilar, Mark Barocca and JV Casio. Chris Tiu played only in their debut while Rabeh Al-Hussaini missed their second game. Letran’s Rey Guevarra is injured while RJ Jazul missed the first game to play for the Knights in their Final Four game against the San Beda Lions.
The other players that have seen action in all of their games are FEU’s JR Cawaling, Aldrech Ramos, and Mac Baracael, San Sebastian’s Jason Ballesteros, and UAAP MVP and UST standout Dylan Ababou.
Missing in action are Guevarra, Visayan centers Greg Slaughter and Junmar Fajardo, Ateneo’s Ryan Buenafe, and UE’s Paul Lee. UP’s Magi Sison is suited up but has yet to see action in the PBA. These players are also students, people exclaim and while this is true, they can’t shrug the fact that they need to put their best players! I am sorry but the team could use a couple of 6’9 and higher guys because Ballesteros and Aguilar are getting plummeted!
Obviously, these guys are starstrucked when playing against their idols. Moreover, they don’t fight back. The BK experience is enough to psyche them out of their game faces. With the ruling, Noli Eala is planning to pull out their squad from the Philippine Cup altogether.
So how will this unresolved issue wreak havoc in the PBFantasy game?
1) I was victimized in the second week when I chose CJ Giles and Chris Tiu. Tiu didn’t play because of injury while Giles found out of the personal matter against TNT. I only got 1 rebound from these guys in two games! WHAT THE HELL!?! WHAT IF BAROCCA, CASIO, or even AGUILAR DNP’s!?!
2) If this is non-bearing, will the Smart-Gilas versus Coca-Cola Tigers game pit Barocca, Casio, Baracael, Al-Hussaini, and Aguilar against RJ Rizada, Francis Allera, Dale Singson, Rodney Santos, and Tigers assistant coach Gerard Francisco because WHY WOULD THE TIGERS RISK THEIR BEST PLAYERS TO GET HURT!?!
3) Try looking at the Nov 7 to Nov 13 sked: Sta. Lucia has two games: one against Gilas and the other is an out-of-town game against San Miguel. No one can argue of how sucky your picks must be if Gilas pulls out their roster a day after YOU FINALIZED YOUR ROSTERS!?!
4) And what if… just what if… the PBFANTASY organizers think that since the other games are non-bearing, they totally destroy all the points you caught using the “non-bearing” players?
Fact is, wasting your picks on Gilas will have its pros and cons. And the fact that the best players in the league playing against a bunch of amateurs are great to coral stat points (if they take these kids seriously).
But in a game that lasts for four months, their entry gave the gamers extra players to get points. They are the foremost reason why the players are cheap compared from last season.
But ultimately, he who bets best will definitely take over the tourney.
Game over.
FINALLY FANTASY - PBA LEAGUE ONLINE

** As of October 21, 2008
I just registered in the online fantasy league site called pbfantasy.com. Its kind of a big deal site since it gets exposure in the actual PBA coverage. It’s simple… could be boring… but it could morph to bigger things once you cash in on its dividends.
Hey, you know me… I love to research my stats so this is something that I like. If you want to see where I’m playing, search the Chicago Balls team in the cap’n kids’ league section. Damn right, I mocked the name of the best NBA team in the 90’s. The problem I find with the game though is that once you register, you can’t change leagues. However, for all you PBA addicts, this is the best way to become a PBA franchise owner.
Here’s the thing: I am going to mimic Rick Kamla and try to lure you in making the right choices for your fantasy team. You have 1,000,000 pesos and you have to get a starting five worthy for your budget. You can’t have an all-superstar lineup since one superstar would probably get 300,000. Judging from their current stats and their price list, here are the best deals you can get. Read more
PBA FANTASY LEAGUE ANYONE?

FANTASY LEAGUE ANYONE?
Due to technical difficulties, the POW10 failed to deliver this week. However this does not mean that there will not be a rundown.
Anyway…
Last Sunday the Black’s Board read a fan mail that wishes the PBA website to have a fantasy league. My response and Norman Black’s response is virtually “ASA”. The league needs a credible website and pba.ph lacks articles, stats, player profiles, and even the audio streaming bogs down from time to time.
How can you even think of a fantasy league?
However, given approval, there are some sites that can moderate a fantasy PBA. It’s easy if you know how it works and with ten teams and 150 players on board, it can be sure fun!
And if you can’t get approval from the PBA, you can at least fake it. I’m sure people would like to get their hands on PUREGOOD’S KIRBY REYMUNDO, BED BULL’s BOLEX RUBENSON, and EARTH 21’s ARVIN SANDOS. Read more
Cyberdunk: Create your own MJ and dominate the game.

OLONGAPO- Rookie Chrisangelo suffered the worst loss of his young pro career as his Iligan Privateers were publicly humiliated (pun intended) by the Olongapo Supernovas, 111-31 at the legendary Richmond Arena.
The 6-3 shooting guard from Santo Tomas was the only bright spot for the Privateers and showed why he was drafted 1st overall, leading his team in every statistical category with 9 points, 4 assists, 7 rebounds and a steal in 48 minutes of action.

Oh scratch, I’m running out of compliments. Chris is a longshot from playing in any pro league, much less get drafted first overall. Man, he can’t even outplay me one-on-one! :D
Anyways, I got your attention. Hehehe. Well, I stumbled into this cool site for hoosiers, cyberdunk.com. It’s still in its beta stage so don’t expect great graphics. The sketches are even weird and cheap-looking. But the play is definitely great. You can create a player (or manage a team), get drafted, and sign a contract in one of the leagues in any country you prefer. This is a dream come true I tell you. Hahaha. Read more
