The next Power Rankings will be the First Round Finale.
25. ALEX CABAGNOT (LAST WEEK # 21) – Blame the Tigers’ weak games for bringing his stats four games down.
24. LA TENORIO (LW # 19) – Down five spots, expect a boost on his stats when the Aces win their remaining assignments.
23. GARY DAVID (LW # 24) – A notch up, his “energy†is giving the top-seeded Express additional firepower.
22. MIKE CORTEZ (LW # 20) – Jonas Villanueva reign as top reliever to Olsen Racela proved short-lived, especially when the Cool Cat pouring 18 points to seal a quarterfinal spot.
21. ROGER YAP (LW # 29) – His scoring could be a bit sluggish but the other stats he gives the Giants are great.
20. HOMER SE (LW # 26) – How did this gangling bouncer get in here? In less than 22 minutes he is able to contribute a bit less than what Joe Devance could give… but the difference is that they are winning.
19. MARC PINGRIS (LW # 25) – The new dad storms up in a wicked manner. With the Masters ending the elims in a high note, expect the pseudo-Frenchie to play inspired ball.
18. DONDON HONTIVEROS (LW # 14) – Since his return the Masters have won games but there was nothing significant about his numbers.
17. LORDY TUGADE (LW # 18) – Rising up amidst limited playing time, the Alaminos Assassin gave a much needed push for the quarterfinals-bound Masters.
16. SONNY THOSS (LW # 17) – The gangly slotman moves up a notch despite the so-so last games of the Aces.
15. RYAN REYES (LW # 16) – His stats has weakened. His team has faltered. But for some reason, he moves up a notch in the rankings.
14. RANIDEL DE OCAMPO (LW # 13) – With Reyes moving up, it seems its ironic that Ranidel moved down despite his superb performances to give his team the top spot.
13. DANNY SEIGLE (LW # 11) – Dynamite Danny has been playing the backup role as of late and yeah, it moved him down the rankings, but it also boosted his team’s standing.
12. WYNNE ARBOLEDA (LW # 15) – The Snatcher has been doing everything for the Express. Scoring, orchestrating, swiping balls, drilling clutch baskets… seriously, the works.
11. ASI TAULAVA (LW # 10) – Moving out of the Top Ten for the first time, the Rock’s current weakass offensive is a huge disappointment despite his league-leading rebound domination.
10. JIMMY ALAPAG (LW # 12) – Displacing the Rock from the Elite 10 is his ex-teammate. He pretty much performed well orchestrating the necessaries especially in spoiling Red Bull’s outright entry bid.
9. KERBY RAYMUNDO (LW # 8) – He was still struggling, but he brought his A Game in their loss against Air21. Yes, they lost but the fact that the Kid slowly groping to form makes the Giants in the Wildcard Phase.
8. JAMES YAP (LW # 9) – Switching ranks with his teammate, BGJ has been on a tear lately, scoring like an import for Purefoods. Perhaps pressured from the strong showing of Peter Simon? While his personal life is everything but “chunky†nowadays, his basketball life needs to get wins or it too, will end up on the rocks.
7. KELLY WILLIAMS (LW # 6) – Since the Realtors’ current state, K-Will has been dropping in the rankings. With their import hurt, I see an early exit for the Realtors. However, he is still in contention for the MVP award. He just needs to pray that Miller and Santos won’t play beyond the Finals.
6. CYRUS BAGUIO (LW # 4) – A distant darkhorse in the MVP race, his game was brought down when he scored a measly 7 points against Welcoat. He was actually benched… after Yeng Guiao thought there was no possible way that the Dragons would rise up from their eventual blowout.
5. MACMAC CARDONA (LW # 3) – With a horrible win-loss record, Captain Hook barely clung to the Top 5 spot. I guess it’s hard to defend his Best Player title but we have to wait and see if this DLSU Archer could give his team a much-needed shot in the arm.
4. ARWIND SANTOS (LW # 7) – Moving up big time, while Gary David provided the points and Arboleda provided the help, it was Santos who pretty much led with the dirty work. Defense was one of the major cogs for their ascension and for Air21, that is such an improvement.
3. WILLIE MILLER (LW # 1) – After a week in the top spot, Miller was quickly taken out of the heap. Blame chicken pox for this. Nonetheless, his first game back had him inch and claw four steals. I guess the players he guarded haven’t had pox yet. His last game with Ginebra would seal the rightful winner in the rankings.
2. JAYJAY HELTERBRAND (LW # 5) – The Gins have only two reps in the rankings and it is ironic that they are the ones lording the heap. Helterbrand for one, was the only Gin to play all their games dating back to the Philippine Cup. He exploded for 30 points a few games back and just when you think he’ll settle once again as the Spark’s less-heralded tag team partner, Helter-skelter managed to make his playmaking a very important role in the Gin lineup.
1. MARK CAGUIOA (LW # 2) – After a week of non-domination, Caguioa has finally returned with a vengeance. Currently one of the league’s hottest teams, their 1-2 punch is really knocking out their opponents. Caguioa has been manhandling his defenders, making them look bad with his array of offensive moves. Miller could easily dispose him on this spot as they battle in the final playdate of the first round. Helterbrand could also displace him as well.
A more detailed conclusion will ensue.
By then, SURF PORN!
