The 2008 NBA Pre-Draft Entry
June 26, 2008 by Chrisangelo · Leave a Comment
After a crazy season full of upsets, frustrations and of course fulfillment, we are now starting again. Starting tomorrow at 7 in the morning here in the Philippines, about 60 players will be drafted in the NBA. To tell you more about the who’s who and what’s what of this draft, read more below.
Chicago Bulls
Well, mock drafts are projecting Memphis point guard Derrick Rose to be the Number 1 overall draft pick in this year’s draft. However, as I said in this entry I’m more high on Michael Beasley in this one. Beasley is a very athletic player who can play both Forward spots and can score from the inside and from the out. While it’s hard to pass out on someone like Derrick Rose, the Bulls have been longing for a prolific inside operator who can blend with perimeter players like Gordon, Hinrich and Deng. So yeah as a fan of the Bulls and an observer, I’ll go with Michael Beasley here. Read more

Another PBA Personality is battling the big-C. I wonder if former imports, specially the HOF-ish (so to speak) former PBA imports get something out the PBA players union. If not, PBA is a family and is known to pull through and help each other in time of crisis. Already, Norman Black is reaching out to Parks to assist him to help him rebound. Read more

The Boston Conspiracy: The Truth about the NBA Finals
When the dust settled, Boston wins their 17th title as expected. It’s just a shame it had to happen via a blowout.
When I wrote the Game 4 review, I knew Boston will win the Finals. Yeah sure, I’m a BC guy but down 3-1, you have to know that the Celtics wouldn’t lose the Finals in a string of unfortunate events. I also predicted LA would win Game 5, since it will be pretty hard for the Lakers to lose two straight at home.
As expected, the Lakers creamed the Celtics, just like in Game 4. This time though, they won despite a rallying Celtics. Again, LA looked lost going towards the stretch. But never would I imagine such as an anticlimactic finish as that we have witnessed.
So where’s the conspiracy? Read more

Global Cable’s Best Moment
I’d like to thank Global Destiny cable for the interrupted service, Makati area. Just in time for the MOST IMPORTANT GAME of the 2007 - 2008 season. Salamat. Salamat talaga. At least, I did not see the Laker loss game in high definition. I was using this cheapy antenna. I had to walk 6 blocks and borrow that from friend. The run made me perspire more than Kobe did in this game. Next time, screw the service on a day with a big event. How about the incoming Pacquiao fight?

Chris Speaks: Addressing the NBA Finals
June 18, 2008 by Chrisangelo · 6 Comments
First up, congratulations to the Boston Celtics for putting up one of the most dominating performance in an NBA Finals Series. With the way the played tonight, to say they deserve it is an understatement. KG was all over the court, Allen scored on all corners, Pierce was still a douchebag to me but he was legendary in this series and the support they had from the other guys was superb.
The big things shifted the momentum, but the little things won the whole series for them.
Prior to this series, never in my life have I imagined that the next few words will come out of my mouth… Read more
FIESTA CUP POWER RANKINGS 4th EDITION
June 17, 2008 by SYDMAN · 2 Comments
The Power Rankings went to an overwhelming halt due to everyone’s inkling to check on the NBA Finals. Sure, I know for one that Eddie House, Sasha Vujacic, and Jordan Farmar has zero star power… but they sure thrill us when they make their moments in the biggest stage of them all.
This was a pretty big week for the PBA as some of the reliable imports have departed. Alex Compton will reprise his role again as Welcoat’s second import while Randy Holcomb has emerged as one of the more consistent imports as of late. In the local side of things, most of the injured superstars has returned to their respective teams. We should also congratulate a new hire in Reed Juntilla, who impressed the Red Bull officials after a great series in the PBL Finals while playing for runner up Hapee Complete Protectors. Read more
Chris Speaks: Live to die another day?

The Lakers won earlier and I am not surprised nor satisfied. Why?
Is it because we all know Boston wants to finish off the Lakers on the garden?
No. It’s clear that the Celtics desperately want to finish the series at the Staples. Paul Pierce played all 48 minutes of the game, knocking down 38 big points while putting his body on the line to stop Mr.Bryant from taking over. Doc Rivers played Allen for 40 minutes and Garnett for 35 minutes. If that’s what “Wanting to finish of the Lakers at their homecourt means” then damn, the Celtics have been playing relaxed basketball all series long. Read more
Sydman’s Side Defect: Game 4
June 13, 2008 by SYDMAN · 4 Comments
When dreams turn into nightmares…
Through the years, Game 4s serve as the series kicker. It could be seen as the perceived clincher (3-1), the beginning of a comeback (2-2), or a signal for domination (4-0).
This was no exception.
A lot is expected from a pivotal Game 4 matchup. The best wants to prove they are more than best and the nervous emotions have pretty much mellowed. Game 4s… sigh… this is where Julius Erving performed his legendary baseline feat against the Lakers. This was where Magic Johnson made a junior, junior, JUNIOR version of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s skyhook.
And remember when you squirmed seeing Kevin McHale clothesline Kurt Rambis? Ugh. Read more
