Kobe-Lake Show, To The Finals!

Trade Rumors, BURIED.

Regular Season, TOPPED.

Denver, DONE.

Jazz, NO MORE.

Spurs, SPANKED.

Sometimes, I almost want to agree… that… whoever has the best player on a seven game series, that team usually wins (Miami-Wade over Dallas, Bulls-MJ over everyone else, Celtics-Bird in the 80s, Magic-LA in the 80s too, Shaq-Lakers over Reggie, Iverson and Jason Kidd, Spurs-Duncan over Billups, Kidd, Allan Houston). Safe digits… 75% likely, the best player’s team wins. This is the case with the SPURS -Lakers West conference showdown. KOBE BRYANT is the best player. His team won. He finished off the Spurs with a variety of moves in the second half. Every Bryant shot, air is sucked out of Spurs’ will.

But credit too should be given to the following…

* Lamar Odom for not sucking, I mean, sulking, each time he’s got his customary slump. Finding a way to contribute and somehow able to deliver some needed points at crucial stages. Read more

WCF Report: One for the road

On Officiating
First up, let me be the first one to say that I’m a very big Laker fan, everyone who knows me and reads some of my write up here at HooPh knows that. It is also given that I’m not a very big fan of the Spurs. Of course, the respect for what this team has done over the past few years is there but I’ll have to die first to cheer for the men in black. With that being said, some of you might probably think that the next three to five sentences with be full of blatant bias against the Spurs. But hear me out..

First, from the television angle, it really was a foul. If I was calling the game as a ref and I’m looking at it from the television point of view, I would’ve called it. Who wouldn’t? Fisher was up in the air and there definitely was contact. But the problem is, the refs have a different angle down there. It’s either one of two things, that a) Barry faked, dribbled once and Fisher came down crashing on a helpless Barry which would’ve called the foul (That’s what I saw) or b) Barry faked, dribbled once towards Fisher who jumped straight up thus giving the refs to think that Barry forced the contact resulting into a no call. And the referees saw the latter.. thus resulting to a win for the Lakers. It’s a matter of how the refs would call it, they were calling it rough all night. They weren’t giving ticitac fouls (A good example of this is Kobe, who attempted 29 shots but never had a chance to shoot freethrows) they were consistent all night. Now I’m not saying it was a good call for the referee, I said it above, it could’ve been a foul but that’s the refs decision to call it, that’s their spots, that’s why they’re there. Read more

FIESTA CUP POWER RANKINGS SECOND EDITION

May 26, 2008 by SYDMAN · 1 Comment

POWER RANKINGS

Gone from the rankings are Homer Se (who has now fallen deep due to misuse), Lordy Tugade (due to an awful game), and Jay-R Reyes (because Welcoat again slid down to last place). In a given moment, these men could strike back to the list. But that could be due to a very good game.

HOW THE STATS ARE COUNTED:

AVERAGE (MINUTES PLAYED / SUM (PPG + RPG + APG + SPG + BPG) –
SUM (PPG + RPG + APG + SPG + BPG) then we add the wins of their respective teams as of this writing.

Complicated? Yeah. Now we go to the rankings. Read more

WCF Report: Hollywood Homicide

A tale of a very underrated team?

Sue me if the word underrated is an overstatement to define the Los Angeles Lakers team. Sure, they’ve been getting some buzz especially after acquiring Gasol but still, not the same love as people give to the Boston Celtics team in the regular season, the New Orleans team after eliminating Dallas and pushing the defending Champs to the limit and the Spurs after dominating Phoenix and ending NOH’s run.

Eventually, the fans still think that the Lakers are eventually going to get blown out of proportion in this series. So far, after two games, that has not been the case.

But still, everyone thinks that the Spurs will roll through the Lakers in the next two games and finish of Kobe and the gang in Six. Apparently everyone still thinks that the first two games were flukes and the Spurs, for as old as they are, we still blow Los Angeles right our of the series and enter the Finals again. Read more

The Bull Sheet 2: Charging Back?

May 23, 2008 by Chrisangelo · Leave a Comment

It’s been almost 6 months since I wrote the first ever Bull Sheet over at Bulls.for.the.win and for some reasons, that has been my first and last post over at that blog. Well what can you say? It was a disaster.. a holocaust.. last season was disgusting for the Bulls and their fans. The Coaching Changes, Ben Wallace.. LARRY FREAKIN’ HUGHES!! Nocioni’s injuries and last but not the least, their core of Gordon, Deng and Hinrich didn’t live up to their expectations.

But that season is over, and we, the hopeful Bulls fans are again looking for a brand new start next season.

Maybe winning the draft lottery is a start. Read more

The Eastern Finals: BOSTON vs DETROIT

May 23, 2008 by SYDMAN · 2 Comments

So Chrisangelo thinks he has a hold on me. Damn you, I was supplying PBA stats and now you forced me to right about the Eastern Conference.

No I’m not pissed on the fact that you gave me pointers. Actually, when you IM-ed me you were like a good boy begging me for help.

And then you bug the hell out of me on your Western Conference Finals column.

….

DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joke lang Pare! Anyway, remember when I told you all that ex-Boston players Danny Ainge, Kevin McHale, and Larry Bird are conspiring to make Boston a contender? Well Red Auerbach and Dennis Johnson must be smiling in heaven because after an atrocious season, they can finally feel the Celtic Pride in the beautiful territory owned by that great guy from the sky!

What? So you saw Bird not participating? Had Seattle didn’t participate in the draft day trade, we could have seen Jermaine O’ Neal in a green uniform. With the way he is playing, there is no chance in hell that Boston could even feel his presence with all the injuries he has been sustaining. By the way, Dennis Johnson’s first team was Seattle. I might be merely looking for a connection or I’m just leading others in the wrong direction that the Sonics is just taking all their excess salary cap so when they move to Oklahoma, they’ll have a clean slate.
