Derrick Pumaren Unloaded by Talk N Text

January 29, 2008 by Benhur · 3 Comments

Everyone saw it coming.

(1) TnT players knew that their coach is in a bubble. And so, players backed up Pumaren for fear of another new system and for fear of losing their slots in case another coach comes in.

(2) Team owners knew the team is in trouble. Players lacked intensity and oh boy, there was no chemistry. And, owners figured, one easy way out is to replace the coach and his deputies. In cases like this, it’s always easier to sack a coach than to overhaul the team. Read more

Sydman’s Side Defect: THE SEMIFINALS (#1 Purefoods versus #4 Red Bull)

January 25, 2008 by SYDMAN · 4 Comments

The amazing run of the Coca-Cola Tigers has ended and pitted up top are the four players most likely to make 2008 their biatch!

See that? I used the word biatch!

Anywho, here are the two matchups to take place for the right to go an inch closer to the 2008 Philippine Cup Crown.

PUREFOODS VERSUS RED BULL

This is the game that would likely draw crowds. In the 2005-06 season, these two squads were the only protagonists of both championships. The Giants are the league’s glamour boys while the Barakos are the league’s gore boys.

BACKUP BIG MEN: The advantage of PUREFOODS is they have a slew of big men to provide chaos against their foes. Romel Adducul and Jondan Salvador provide the bench smarts. Adducul is enjoying his off-the-bench run as a Giant while Salvador isn’t doing badly since getting displaced by Mark Pingris. On the other side we have Carlo Sharma and Paolo Bugia, functional in their roles but fares poorly compared to their counterparts.
ADVANTAGE: Purefoods

A side-match will also be seen as Sharma and Salvador could blast each other anew (Seriously, the Sharma drop to Jondan’s fist was downright embarrassing). Read more

The 2008 Philippine Cup Obituaries: WELCOAT DRAGONS

The 2008 Philippine Cup Obituaries: WELCOAT DRAGONS

Since entering the league they have been the cellar-dwellers. The Kings of the Underworld… comes from the Land of Down Under. Yeah, people are rough but people seriously want this team to evolve.

Except for that consecutive win streak against top-tier teams like Talk N Text and Magnolia, the Dragon offensive is again forgettable.

So what are the factors that lead to this travesty?

(Players win games while coaches lose them. This is the basis of my report.)

Player Rating: 10 – Highest, 1– Lowest
Coach Rating: A – Amazing, F – Failure

The Player Rating refers to the ability of the player to shine for his team, given the circumstances of his minutes, stat-hounding abilities, and conditioning.

The Coach Rating is for Leo Austria. Yup, I know some coaches prefer some men over the other but considering how their team fared, it should be a sight to know the repercussions he obtained when he used these types of players. Read more

Sydman’s Side Defect: THE PBA QUARTERFINALS

January 21, 2008 by SYDMAN · 4 Comments

The QF

Coke versus Alaska. Red Bull versus Magnolia. Four teams eager to strike gold. How will I rate them? Read on.

In accordance to my NO BULLSHIT RULE, I shall call my alterego, the EVIL SYDMAN to make this work.

ESYD: Takteng PBA website yan. Bago ka na nga pero hindi naman gumagana results page mo. At kelan ka ba magi-improve ng todo? Pwe.

The Evil Sydman rant-o-nomics will never come back EVER again.

ALASKA VERSUS COKE

The History: Years ago Alaska used Coke as a dump site for all their disgruntled stars. Johnny Abarrientos, Poch Juinio, Jojo Lastimosa, Bong Hawkins, Kenneth Duremdes, Ali Peek, Rhoel Gomez, Nic Belasco, and John Arigo are amongst the players ping-ponged by the two squads. After trading most of their grand slam crew, Alaska failed to win championships. Coke on the other hand welcomed the addition of these “trashed” stars as they won a series of titles – one of which came at the expense of the Aces ON XMAS DAY.

Now that sucks. Read more

Look what we have here… a quick glimpse of a refreshed PBA webbie. After YEARS of dormancy, we now see change, err, only movement thus far. Don’t get too excited boys.

The “new” PBA site got some flashy-flash-flash at front while some pages are still giving 404s. Let’s see what they are up to in the coming days. Hopefully, there are more features, more stats and more content. NOT just a change of THEME, refreshment of images and replacement of columns, tables, etc. Read more

Power Rankings: End of Eliminations “The Pure Rankings”

Power Rankings: End of Eliminations
“The Pure Rankings”

Should have played 10 Games or more.

The computations for the seeding relied on the sum of the five biggest stats known in the game (POINTS+REBOUNDS+ASSISTS+STEALS+BLOCKS). These stats were taken from the results the PBA Website post. These stats are for individual accolades. The individuals that partake in helping their team win in games will follow the same formula, but the addition of TEAM WINS will be added. This means that players like Joe Devance will be eliminated from the rankings and players like Ryan Reyes and Nelbert Omolon could move up in the stats.

First up are the players that owned the rest with their aggressive performances.

BE TRUE TO YOUR SCHOOL - The Nike Dunk 2008

BE TRUE TO YOUR SCHOOL
The Nike Dunk. 2008.

Check this out from our NIKE - Ogilvy friends… Get to understand the “THE NIKE DUNK 2008…

BE TRUE

The Nike design philosophy has always been to build a better shoe for sports, and to let style follow function. Twenty-three years ago, a basketball hi-top emerged from this ethos that became an icon of boldness, both on the court and off—the Nike Dunk. True to the colors of the college teams it was built for, Dunk’s simple, high-contrast colorways evolved into a statement of true rebellion when skaters made them their own.

Fundamentally, being true is being authentic. And the building blocks of authenticity are discovered through witnessable action. In the fall of 1985, that witnessable action came in the form of eight college basketball teams that laced up footwear created not only to help them dunk on opponents, but also to flash authentic, audacious pride for their schools. Sharma Hits, Didn’t Look Back And Down He Goes

January 17, 2008 by Benhur · 6 Comments

From a no-bearing game, the fight between Redbull’s Carlo Sharma and Purefoods’ Jondan Salvador could have bearing in their respective incoming games. Everybody’s expecting suspensions and these could affect later games. IMHO, one direct punch/hit that lands could be equivalent to not less than 2 games. Read more
