NBA Trade Speculations As Read By Suntey

Oh, here’s Anthony Suntey, giving one NBA piece. Rather than giving his own thoughts, it’s more like a summary of what he is reading and hearing about the trades and speculations. Just like me! Oh well.

Distrito out by November?

FORMER Philippine Basketball Association player Rudy Distrito, who is serving a six-year sentence for manslaughter, is hoping he will be released in November 2008. This was according to Ruffy Ignacio, secretary-general of the PBA Legends USA Foundation. Ignacio relayed the information after he received a call from Distrito following his meeting with the parole board, which didn’t indicate a release date but was reportedly “happy with the goals Rudy set out to accomplish.” Full Story

THE LEAGUE LEADERS (Until Dec 25)

December 27, 2007 by SYDMAN · Leave a Comment

As 2007 comes to a close, here are the players that made fans drool with their greatness.

Read on.

* The Numbers were taken from the start of the conference until December 25, 2007.

SCORING:

1. WILLIE MILLER, Alaska 22.5 points? The reigning MVP is ballin! Minus those fast break troikas, The Thriller isn’t really ball-hogging. Four Aces are averaging in double digits.

2. JAMES YAP, Purefoods – With his 21.5 clip, he is the offensive force that coexists with Kerby Raymundo’s drive to get almost everything. The result – the Giants are leading.

3. ARWIND SANTOS, Air21 – Santos is such a revelation for the Express especially with the ouster of their top scorer Gary David. His 19.7 is good for third.

THE REST OF THE PACK:

Red Bull’s Cyrus Baguio is fourth with 17.9, while Magnolia’s Danny Seigle comes in with 17.8. Ginebra’s Fast and Furious tandem of Jayjay Helterbrand and Mark Caguioa charges in with 17.5 and 16.5 respectively as Sta. Lucia’s Kelly Williams is good at eighth with 16.3. Finishing the top ten are Welcoat’s Joe Devance (15.9) and Magnolia’s Lordy Tugade (15.7).

REBOUNDING:

1. ASI TAULAVA, Coca-Cola – While his TNT points drowned his massive scoring haul his rebounds fortified the fact that the Rock has been reborn with 14.4 a game. Read more

POWER TEN (Philippine Cup Individual rankings as of Dec 26)

POWER 10 – December 26

No Photoshop doodles this week. Why? Because I was basically bumming it out on my house. I got to watch that Xmas day match between Ginebra and Purefoods and I must say, hearing Mico Halili and Jason Webb shouting “Merry Christmas”, “Hohoho”, and “This is the season of giving” while Jayjay Helterbrand was lashing at Ardy Larong, and Ronald Tubid making sure Marc Pingris wouldn’t have another kid is funny.

Anyway, with the last game of the year played this Friday, we have to wonder on who made it high and who went bye-bye.

Game starts now. Read more

Asi Taulava Scored 2223 Big Points In A Game

December 26, 2007 by Benhur · 2 Comments

A filler post.

Asi Taulava poured 2223 points but Coca Cola Tigers still failed to win.

asi-rocks.gif

Checking one PBA.ph game recap and boxscores, PBA site says Asi Taulava scored a mind-boggling 2223 points!

This thing happens ‘coz the PBA site is on a mano-mano mode. Much like, ahh, this site.

Happy Holidays!

Merry Christmas People!

December 24, 2007 by Chrisangelo · 4 Comments

This one’s going to be a short entry because of two things:

a) This one ain’t basketball related.

b) I have lots of things to do later.

But what the hell, might as well spend a minute or two in writing this entry. I just want to greet everyone of you guys, every reader, writer, hater and player who happened to drop by at this site a Happy Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year.

and like what Sydman said…

There’ll be no Marlou Aquino bashing today!!

Once again, a Blessed and Happy Holidays everyone!

Statistically speaking…

December 21, 2007 by Chrisangelo · 13 Comments

I know I’m not the only one who brags about this, but being a good ambassador of Philippine Basketball Bloggers let me say it again, THE PBA WEBSITE NEEDS SOME REVAMPING! Okay.. enough of that, I’m beginning to sound like Sydman.. anyway..

Let’s talk Stats. Since we can’t get enough information from the PBA website, we decided to come up with an improvised stat board on excel. As I’m updating the stat board last night, I’ve noticed quite a few things worth writing about. And here it is..

Ryan Reyes actually rebounds BETTER than Marlou Aquino

We’ve seen many surprises this year, Sta.Lucia riding on a win streak. Asi being shipped to Coke, Espinas to Air 21, Welcoat beating TNT and Magnolia. But after its all said and done.. the biggest surprise of them all is that SLR’s starting point guard, a rookie btw, who missed one game, Ryan Reyes actually rebounds better than their starting center who played all 14 games this season, Marlou Aquino. Yes, you’ve heard that right.. Ryan Reyes who played 13 games this season came up with a total of 67 rebounds (5.2 a game) while Marlou, who played 14 games this year, tallied a total of 46 freaking rebounds. Yes, 46. And no, that is not a typographical error. Oh and yes, I can name some other guards who rebound better than Marlou Aquino. Read more

Rejuvenation for Air21, Espinas?

December 19, 2007 by SYDMAN · 6 Comments

Finally reinforcements!

Having the weakest bench in this conference (excluding Welcoat), Air21 has sent its first round pick in 2008 for former NCAA Rookie MVP Gabby Espinas.

The former PCU Dolphin is one of two new faces to don the Express uniform after they placed former Benilde star Mark Magsumbol in their game lineup.

Gary David is expected to suit for the team, come December 23.

This is a bail out for the career of Espinas, as he is inches away of becoming the next Reuben dela Rosa of the league. Read more

POWER TEN (Philippine Cup Individual rankings as of Dec 17)

December 17, 2007 by SYDMAN · 6 Comments

one bored day

Oh, I photoshopped my list, yes?

Anyway, Arwind Santos continues to hold the top spot after another commanding performance for the Express (although, like I said, they need to strenghten up their bench.)

Willie Miller again settled for the second spot but Nic Belasco is a stat away from relinquishing his third place hold. Ever since Asi Taulava was shipped to Coke, the Rock has been killing his opponents! They are the hottest team in the league now with Asi reaping 26.8 ppg, 18 rpg, and 4.4 apg for the Tigers!

Jayjay Helterbrand moved up a notch, displaying Kerby Raymundo at the fifth spot. Mark Telan fell to seventh place, stats ahead of Kelly Williams. Despite not playing for three games straight, Cyrus Baguio is good enough to secure the ninth slot. Ranidel de Ocampo is finishing again at number 10. Read more
