Hoops Poll: Asia’s Top Dog

July 31, 2007 by .:. · Leave a Comment

Philippines will not advance in the FIBA Asia Championships.

It’s sad that we are taking this down this early. To the care takers of Philippine Basketball program, we still believe that we can be the top dog in Asia. Continue (and improve) the program.

Who’s Asia’s Top Dog?

* Philippines (72%)
* China (12%)
* Lebanon (7%)
* Jordan (4%)
* Japan (2%)
* Iran (1%)
* Korea (1%)

Nice try.. let’s go all the way next time.

The dream came to an end, just today. But just like what those other guys say, every new beginning comes from somewhere in the beginning’s end.

Let’s use this as a painful learning experience.

I feel bad about the loss of our national team. I never really expected them to fall in the preliminary round, but then again, we just have to accept the fact that they fought, they played hard but they came up short.

After all, it’s their efforts and their hard work that counts anyway.

Right now, they should go home with their heads up. We played against three Championship caliber teams and yes, we gave them one hell of a scare, we gave them a run for their money. Besides, our two losses could’ve gone the other way around. For some reason our shots weren’t falling and the breaks aren’t just going our way, and that’s the way basketball goes. We’ve made lots of mistakes but we can start from there. Study, think and scout why it ended up that way, and hopefully we can pick up from where we left off and go all the way next time. Read more

The Dream Is Over, What Can I Say

July 30, 2007 by Benhur · 38 Comments

Weekend was terribly bad and to start my week, the worst case scenario just came upon us just couple of hours ago. We’re axed. We got beat by the Jordanians. In the end, the shorter and tired Filipinos were not able to contain the likes of Rasheim Wright (a naturalized player) and Daghlas. Taller and stockier guys.

The pressing they did yesterday against China took its toll on the players. They looked tired and had no energy chasing balls. Jordan killed us in rebounding (doubled our offensive rebounds).

Let’s accept, tonight, the Philippines succumbed to a better team, Jordan.

I will no longer point my newly manicured fingers to players and who-not ‘coz this is not the time to do so. You don’t kick a man when he’s down. The bashing is reserved for some other time. Tonight, surely, these players, coaches, stakeholders are hurting more than me. Let’s give them a good night sleep. (Alright just a slight nudge, certain players and coaches had some lapses. As Seen On TV.)

But looking at the big picture, we still need to continue the progress. Small gains or not, the Philippine Basketball program should continue.

Some things worth considering… Read more

Sydman and Chrisangelo’s breakdown: Jordan vs Philippines

July 30, 2007 by Chrisangelo · 21 Comments

What will happen when two schools of thought combine? One is said to be SYDMAN (aka Drixlazar), The Idea Diarrhea because of his reeking, continuous, overflowing, brownish basketball ideas while the other is the Chrisangelo, the Walking Pornographic Bastard who like many of you, browses the net for everyday girl-on-doberman porn action!

From the depths of society, two bitchin’ talents merging with a promise to promote the truth to the wide scale audience! Forming the biggest idea that will forever shape the stellar internet-basketball-blog-writing-world into another orbit?

We don’t really hope to achieve anything… but educate you about the basketball world! And we’re going to do that by giving you guys an un-expert-like opinion to frequently asked questions by basketball fans.

Pilipinas vs China: Post game thoughts

July 29, 2007 by Chrisangelo · 20 Comments

First up, congratulations, Our very first win in the Asian Games. Regardless of who we’re up against, Team A or Team B of China, a win will always be a win.

—-And we needed that—-

Heart, one thing that has been continuously questioned by the detractors of our team. And with the way they played on the second half, I doubt if those guys can still question their heart.

The win was a total team effort, from Asi Taulava to Jimmy Alapag, everyone played with intensity and they showed everyone a heart of a true filipino. Since we’re talking about true filipino citizenship, let’s talk about Kelly Williams, Jimmy Alapag and Asi Taulava.

Lemme quote some lines from them Fil Am haters

mas maganda talaga kung ang nats e mas mdming pure pinoy. yan kc mga fil-shams e wlang determination sa rp basketball. mga duwag, walang lakas ng loob.

but our current national team aint capable of winning in international events. c’mon, these FIL-SHAMS are only successful in the PBA because they are paid a lot of moolah there.

Whew, I do hope you do know what you’re talking about now. In case you haven’t watched the game, those alleged fil-shams won the game for us. They’ve worked like there’s no tomorrow and kept our hope to make the Olympics alive and kicking. Read more
