TOP TEN: PBA’S DRAFT BIGGEST FLOPS
September 30, 2006 by SYDMAN · 16 Comments
Let’s go back to the yesteryears and reminisce the players that SHOULD have been stars but turned out to be DUDS!
The criteria: 1. Was a first round pick 2. Was an MVP in the NCAA, UAAP, and PBL or was a popular go-to-guy during their pre-PBA days. 3. Was a draft pick – not a direct hire import or a PBL upload (drafted by Tanduay, Red Bull, or any expansion team)
THE TOP TEN ARE AS FOLLOWS. (active players like Feihl and Hrabak are not included) Read more
SMB: By The (Jersey) Numbers
September 30, 2006 by SYDMAN · 5 Comments
Danny Ildefonso played for NU wearing jersey number 9. He also wore 9 in the PBL, playing for Agfa. When he went to the PBA as a San Miguel Beerman he wore number 10. He chose to wear number 10 but his jersey change had a reason. The same reason why Boybits Victoria chose number 1 when he came to the Beermen and possibly the same reason why Chris Calaguio and Francis Adriano had to change their numbers when they played for SMB.That was Samboy Lim’s number.

Pacquiao Rocks His Boat (Once Again)
September 24, 2006 by Benhur · 2 Comments
Filipino boxing superstar Manny ‘PacMan’ Pacquiao is now in Oscar’s stable of boxers. Another reason for Oscar De La Hoya to quit boxing and focus on his fast-rising Golden Boy Promotions.
But could it be another cause of concern for Manny Pacquiao fans? Him moving to a new group 2 months before an important deciding match against Erik Morales. The fight is scheduled on November 18, 2006. The fight with Morales is being promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank. Top Rank was initially favored to sign Manny until Oscar’s team made the pitch. Read more

The Very First PBA Draft Diary
September 24, 2006 by Benhur · 2 Comments
I accidentally caught the second round of the PBA draft earlier tonight. Watched it, read the news and now I give you a short (not that sweet though) PBA Draft Diary. A la Bill Simmons.
Sta Lucia broke its longtime self-imposed ‘No-Fil-Am’ policy by drafting Kelly Williams. But this doesn’t come as a surprise. Days earlier it was widely believed that Sta. Lucia already made up their mind. Said to be capable of playing the 2, 3, 4, 5 positions, he just made any of the Sta. Lucia’s pillars (Duremdes, Espino, Aquino) very much dispensable. Read more

PBA.ph reports a revised PBA ticketing system come next season to further increase gate receipts and revenue. Let’ see:
All-Team Access Pass: New scheme is the All-Team Access Pass (ATP) where fans can get season ticket pass but on a per team basis. The All-Team Access Pass differs from the Season-Ticket pass. Owning ATP means, you are not to pay for games that don’t interest you. Believe me, with 10 teams, a bad playing date schedule can not be prevented even if the PBA hires the best PhD in Statistics and Probability. Read more
PBA Biggest Draft Disappointments List

In no particular order or disorder, herewith is the PBA Biggest Draft Disappointments List.
I wouldn’t want to use the strong word bust, but this list is somehow that.
Reasons maybe because of injury, tough luck or just random circumstance (borrowing a line from Rico). Read more
Charles Barkley Video

Primer: As Sir Charles heads to Springfield for his HOF induction, see this Charles Barkley mix. What a fun player!
See how he blocked the opponents’ shots and dunks. Either he was sending it way out there or he is taking the ball in the air like it’s a rebound. See how he timed his blocked shots. See where he was taking off in finishing fast breaks with a vicious slam. See Kareem backed off. See how a 6 foot 4 inch Power Forward dominated the game of basketball, people are bouncing off him. See how fast, slick and powerful he was.
